Where the Passion Begins

ERIC HANSON

Founding Partner

Eric Hanson started his career in Mass Spectrometry in his senior year of undergraduate college. Chromatography was an immediate passion realized by Eric. Within the lab were multiple gas chromatographs to learn different ways of contaminant detection. Eric was a part of the Savannah River clean-up initiative for radioactive areas impacted by improper waste disposal during war times. Detecting and integrating chromatogram peaks came surprisingly easy for Eric and he knew it was the path for him.

After graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree double major in Biochemistry and Professional Biology, Eric went on to become a Senior Scientist in a reference laboratory. He was in control of five instruments ranging from basic wellness panels to tumor markers and toxicology tests. This is where Eric’s understanding and love for data analysis flourished. Eric began to comprehend virtually every aspect of lab testing. From lab implementation to instrument validation and engineering, he learned everything necessary to run a successful laboratory.

Eric Hanson has now become an integral part of the clinical lab science community. There is rarely a moment that Eric denies work or refuses to learn how to make something happen for a client. One acceptance he continues to support is that patients always come first. Patient care depends highly on results from the lab, so Eric consistently ensure quality reports with impeccable turnaround time.

KEVIN M MOORE

Founding Partner

Kevin has over 20 years of experience in the private sector & government research/development projects. He has taken part in a wide array of innovative efforts at various startup companies and has many peer-reviewed publications to his credit. As co-founder of Critical Mass Labs, he has been a key agent in the planning, design, procurement, and ongoing operation of all of Critical Mass’s lab setups. As a partner and consultant, he continues those duties and personally works with each lab to constantly optimize testing procedures, data quality, and enhance reporting workflow.

Kevin’s areas of expertise as a research scientist and technical advisor include molecular biology, virology, microbiology, biochemistry, HPLC, GC, and mass spectrometry. He plays an integral role in the development and validation of analytical techniques as well as data analysis and reporting for each clinical lab build. Kevin’s philosophy is that the success of a lab is directly dependent on a consistent “hands-on” approach in all phases of lab setup and testing. This ensures that there is never a lapse in communication, downtime is minimized, and the doctors and patients get the results they need in a timely fashion.

Prior to his position at Critical Mass Labs, Kevin was a founding member and Director of Operations at Innovative BioResearch in Charleston, SC, where he directed research efforts to develop vaccines and novel therapeutics to microbial pathogens. There he designed and outfitted the lab, supervised and trained employees, instituted all operational processes, and ensured compliance with federal and state regulations. Kevin’s additional supervisory and analytical testing skills evolved from his similar startup endeavors in the waste-to-energy field where he carried out research design, bench experimentation, and characterization of both waste and biomass fuel products.

Kevin earned his B.S. in microbiology in 1997 from Clemson University with a concentration in biochemistry and microbiology. He also worked on his graduate degree at Clemson in the Microbiology and Molecular Medicine department where he served as an instructor for undergraduate courses in microbiology, bacterial physiology, and microbial genetics. He is currently earning his M.S. at Johns Hopkins University in Energy Policy & Climate
